Video: Hope Animal Rescue Centre manager Susan Buck speaks about Charlie
A puppy taken in by an animal rescue centre in Long Eaton needs an immediate operation to save its life.
Charlie, a five month old puppy, has been taken in by Hope Animal Rescue Centre (HARC) in Long Eaton and suffers from a condition which comes from backyard breeding with his spine bent at ninety degrees.
Because his spine is compressed, Charlie cannot walk properly or stand still with his two legs often dragging behind him as he tries to run.
Manager of HARC Susan Buck said: “He hasn’t got long left if he doesn’t have this operation.
“The vets said his operation would be very difficult but he’s such a star and we want to give him the chance.
“Hopefully after that there will be some nice person out there who will give him a home because he will be up for homing as soon as he is well.”
The vets have never treated a case as bad as this
£8,300 needs to be raised in total for the operation to go ahead otherwise the puppy will die very soon.
She said: “We took him down to a famous vet, they did an MRI and they’re making a model of his spine as we speak.
“They want to operate on him as fast as possible because the compression is getting worse every day and if his spinal cord is damaged, it’s not fixable.
“The vets have treated this disorder before but have never seen it as bad as this.”
