Missing Worksop rhea bird found safe and well

The missing Ostrich-like bird has been found in Hodsock after four days of searching.

The rhea was reported missing from the Roxholme Fly Fishery, situated in Carlton in Lindrick, on Tuesday June 23 in the evening.

Nottinghamshire Police were called to Hodsock Priory Farm in Worksop Road at around 11am on June 26 after a possible sighting of the bird.

At around 1:55pm the rhea was safely manoeuvred into a trailer to be transported back to Carlton in Lindrick.

Hodsock Priory Farm is around four miles from the birds home in Worksop but rheas are capable of running at up to 30mph.

South Yorkshire Police released a statement saying they were investigating reported sightings of the bird in Rotherham before it was found later in the day.

Inspector Alan Easton of Nottinghamshire Police said: “we would like to thank the public for their help and support in rallying round to help us locate the bird and reunite it safely with its owner.”

It appears the bird has been attracted by the snowdrops at Hodsock. Thankfully, it seems to be no worse off for its adventures.

Inspector Alan Easdon of Nottinghamshire Police.

Nottinghamshire Police also offered thanks to South Yorkshire Police for their help during the search for the bird.
