A national retailer is moving into a series of empty units in the Broadmarsh bus station.
Units three, five, seven, nine and 11, which face onto Carrington Street, will be let to the retailer in a bid to raise income for Nottingham City Council and continue the area’s regeneration.
The letting will also reduce costs to the council once the units are no longer empty.
While the name of the retailer is not yet known, it is understood to be a well-known brand.
During a meeting of the council’s Executive Board on Tuesday (December 19), councillors agreed to accept the terms of the letting.
Cllr Steve Battlemuch (Lab), who looks after the property portfolio, said: “The letting is to a national retailer and is on market terms.
“The occupiers wish to take occupation as soon as the legal documents are drafted and the deal will provide budgeted revenue for the Broadmarsh Car Park and Bus Station scheme, so it is a win-win for us.”
The area surrounding the new Broadmarsh Bus Station and Car Park, including Carrington Street and Collin Street, have recently been pedestrianised.
The new Central Library opened in November after delays and the Green Heart parkland area is soon to be constructed.
Cllr Pavlos Kotsonis (Lab) added: “[We are] seeing that part of the city getting more life into it.
“So we have the library, we have the Green Heart coming up, we’ve got this playground coming up, there are so many things happening there.
“It is brilliant.”
