Nottingham City of Football: FA chairman Greg Dyke interview

As part of a series of reports looking at Nottingham’s status as City of Football, Notts TV is looking back some of the key developments which have come since the title was awarded in 2014. In February FA Chairman Greg Dyke visited new pitches on the Forest Rec – and said the city’s plan could become a blueprint.

FA Chairman Greg Dyke says Nottingham’s City of Football project could be rolled out across the UK if it proves a success.

Speaking during a visit to new pitches at the Forest Rec he praised the initiative for getting new people engaged in the sport. Mr Dyke spoke exclusively to Christian Hewgill, who asked him how his visit came about.

Mr Dyke said: “I’ve always wanted to come and see what’s happening and how spending money in a community to promote the game can help.

“You can build facilities but it’s about getting people to come and use them.

You’re only a year in year – but in two three years we’ll be asking what has worked. I hope Nottingham could become a blueprint.”
