Pars said: ” People go on about his image but ultimately the quality of his songs was what was most important for me, I have followed him all my life.”

Many fans in Nottingham will remember when Bowie performed at Rock City in 1997.

Pars was one of the lucky people who managed to grab a ticket which was then £15, and has kept hold of it ever since.

He said:” I queued for an hour to get it, it was so packed that night, but to see my favourite artist in my favourite venue, it was one of the best night’s of my life.

“I have a vivid recollection of his bright red boots.”
