Nottingham patients will be able to book sexual health appointments online for the first time.
The city council says a website offering the service is being developed as part of a drive to simplify treatment for sexual health.
NHS ‘one stop shops’ will also be set up providing advice, contraception and treatment for sexually transmitted infections in one visit.
Currently many patients visit a GP before being referred on to other services, sometimes in different locations.
Councillor Alex Norris, the council’s portfolio holder for public health, said the aim was to provide the “very best” in sexual health services.
The improvements will also be on offer in South Nottinghamshire as part of a contract between the city and county councils and the NHS.

Video: STIs and how to prevent them (NHS Choices)
It comes after an outbreak of ‘Super-Gonorrhoea’ in other parts of the UK caused concern for local health experts.
Nottingham already has one of the highest rates of sexually transmitted infections in the UK – with around 800 cases of gonorrhoea reported each year.
Although there’s no sign of the drug-resistant ‘super’ version of the STI, doctors at the sexual health clinic at Nottingham City Hospital say they are preparing to monitor and treat the condition if it arrives here.
The changes will come in from April next year. More information about current sexual health services are available on the Nottingham City Council Sexual Health page.
