Charity Shops in the city centre have been receiving an increase in donations following the festive period.

Nottingham charity shops have been inundated with donations after Christmas – including brand new unopened items.

Bags, toys and clothing are some of the items that have been donated to the stores.

The items will all be sold at a discounted price with all the proceeds going to charity – stores are now urging people to come and have a look at the bargains they have to offer.

The Cancer Research shop, on Friar Lane, received over 25 bags of donations in a single day.

Rebecca Wood, Shop Manager has seen a huge spike in the amount of donated goods after the festive period.

She said; “We had quite a few people explaining how many of the items were brand new and hadn’t been opened”.

Video: Robert Garland, Area Manager for Cancer Research said the donations after Christmas is always welcomed as stocks are often low.

The Extra Care shop in the intu Broadmarsh Centre, which also has branches in Arnold, Eastwood and Mansfield has also seen an increase in donations.

Lydonna Fox, Deputy Manager at Extra Care says that without the generous donations charity shops just wouldn’t survive.

“We have had more donations than normal as everybody decides they want to clear out when all the new stuff comes in.

“Its great people have been really generous and we rely so heavily on these donations.”
