Notts football legend, ‘Charlie’ McParland awards cheque to charity

'Charlie' McParland and a fundraiser with the £3,500 cheque for the Notts Hospital chairty

Ian ‘Charlie’ McParland has handed over a £3,500 cheque to cancer charities at City Hospital’s opening ceremony.

‘Charlie’ has donated £3,500 to the Nottingham Hospitals Charity which will be split between prostate and breast cancer charity funds.

The day event which raised the grand total, involved live music and the band, Zephyr Four with ticket money all going to the charities.

A spokeswoman for the charity, Naomi Walters believes that it’s a great cause and is helping to support local people across our hospitals.

‘This money will benefit local patients by funding research and specialist equipment, as well as enhancing the hospital environment with special family rooms’.

McParland presented a motown themed event, ‘The Boot room kicks out cancer’ last month to fundraise for the charities at The Approach bar in Nottingham.

The Nottinghamshire football legend returned to Nottingham Forest in 2013 as an under 21 coach.

He had coached Nottingham Forest, for more than a decade before managing Notts County. He was also a player himself and is best known for his eight years at Notts County.
