Richard ‘The Blade Runner’ Whitehead has another Paralympic gold medal to add to his collection after he stormed to victory in yesterday evening’s 200 metres final in Rio.
40-year-old Whitehead left his competitors trailing as he crossed the line in a time 23.39 seconds.
Whitehead’s victory was just one victory for Team GB, in the nation’s best day at a Paralympics since 2004.
South African youngster Ntando Mahlangu, 14, came in second place but could not make ground on the Notts runner as they hit the final stretch.
Another British athlete was celebrating following the race, Whitehead’s team mate Dave Henson finishing in a surprising third place to take the bronze medal.
It is not yet clear whether Whitehead will compete in Tokyo in four years time.
