Comedian Victoria Wood has died aged 62 after a short battle with cancer.
The Lancashire-born entertainer opened a new oral and maxillofacial (OMF) and orthodontics unit at the Queen’s Medical Centre back in 2001, pictured above.
Victoria’s publicist Neil Reading confirmed her death in a statement released earlier today (April 20).
It read: “Victoria Wood has sadly passed away after a short but brave battle with cancer.
“The multi BAFTA award-winning director, actor and comedian died peacefully at her North London home with family.
“The family ask for privacy at this very sad time.”
So sad to hear news that Victoria Wood has died – such a massive talent and a national treasure now lost. Will be missed by whole country.

Wood’s break came in 1974 on the TV talent show New Faces whilst she was still studying at Birmingham University.
She then went on to star in Victoria Wood as Seen on TV and wrote, produced and starred in the hit sitcom dinnerladies.
Since that break she won four BAFTAs out of the 14 that she was nominated for, including best actress and best single drama in 2007 for Housewife, 49, a drama set in World War II.
She was also granted an OBE in 1997 and a CBE in 2008.
Thank you for your love and support at this very hard time. We leave you with these words from Victoria. X pic.twitter.com/w1h9DX19wG
