Paul Williams has left Nottingham Forest following his spell as Reds first-team coach.
Williams took temporary charge of the side for the final 10 matches of the 2015-16 season.
At first the team struggled to find a win, drawing two and losing five of his first seven games.
But Forest’s final three matches included wins away at Fulham and MK Dons amid improved performances.
The club announced Williams was leaving in a statement on Thursday, in which he said: “I would like to thank the fans for all their support since I took charge.
“Although we struggled with results at first, I felt our performances were strong and the lads gave me everything they had.
“They, along with the staff, are a good honest group and I will always appreciate the commitment and desire shown during my time here.
“This club has so much potential and when you see the backing the club receives from the supporters both home and away I truly hope they are rewarded for their loyalty with success on the pitch.”
Williams, assisted by Andy Reid, was promoted into the hot seat after the sacking of Dougie Freedman.
Earlier this week, the bookies’ favourite to take over permanently, Gus Poyet, was instead unveiled as the new boss of Spanish side Real Betis.
