Ranby Prison death update: Man charged with manslaughter

A 24-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter after a prisoner died following an assault.

Quinn Colley, of HMP Ranby, has appeared before Nottingham magistrates charged with manslaughter.

Thomas Axton of Bracknell, Berkshire, was assaulted at the prison in north Nottinghamshire on Monday.

The 37-year-old, who was serving a 4 year sentence for arson, was taken to Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield where he died the next day.

A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death to be a trauma injury to the head.

Three other men aged between 22 and 39 are currently on bail pending further enquiries.
