A record crowd of 21,000 people enjoyed Splendour at Wollaton Park on Saturday.

Organisers say the warm weather and strong line-up for 2016 contributed to the figure.

A day of contemporary and vintage music across the three stages was brought to a close with a dazzling set from singer Jess Glynne.

She paid tribute to her parents as she performed her first-ever headline slot at a festival.

Crowds at the Main and Confetti stages also sang along to hits from UB40; The Human League and The Darkness.

Notts TV filmed backstage interviews with the performers on top of a double-decker open top bus and a special edition of the channel’s 6.30 Show covering all the high points will broadcast on Friday, July 29.

And full Splendour highlights shows are scheduled to go out on Notts TV on August 27 and September 10.

The ninth edition of the event proved so popular an extra 3,000 tickets were laid on to cope with demand, with a sell-out declared as early as last Wednesday.

George Akins owner of festival organisers DHP Family, said: “We’re proud to have once again staged a hugely successful Splendour. The months of careful planning paid off to make it an enjoyable experience on the day for everyone involved, from the artists backstage to all the people who came to enjoy the music, comedy, food and fringe acts.

“Now we can’t wait to get started on putting together an amazing line-up for next year’s big 10th birthday.”
