Residents say they are concerned about a group of travellers who have driven nine caravans onto a Nottinghamshire park.

The group drove the vehicles on one of the football pitches at the Manor Farm Recreation Ground, High Road, Toton, and have been there since Wednesday (July 5).

Roz Armstrong walked her dog on the park last night (July 6) and said she didn’t feel safe letting her dog off the lead.

She wrote on a Facebook group: “There were travellers on Toton Park tonight – I saw them when I went to walk my dog, as they were driving vans on the park.

“It wouldn’t be safe for off-lead walks, hopefully they’ll get moved soon.”

Another man tweeted on Wednesday (July 5) to say: “Travellers have just moved onto the main football pitches field on Toton manor park through the locked gate.”

Broxtowe Borough Council is in charge of the site and says it is ‘taking steps to evict them from the site’.

A spokesman said: “The council has been made aware of travellers in Toton and is taking steps to evict them from the site.

“As far as the Council is aware, the travellers arrived on Wednesday evening and there were nine caravans together with other associated vehicles.”
