AÂ stunning stained glass window memorial will honour Southwell people who have died in conflict since the First World War.
The window and plaque by Nicholas Mynheer will be unveiled at a special serviceon July 10 to honour the sacrifice made by members of Southwell Minster.
It was commissioned by the Dean of Southwell in 2014 with the funds coming from Royal British Legion, army regiment associates and private benefactors.
The design includes images of soldiers in trenches as well as images of those left at home to work and care for families.
Mr Mynheer said:“It acknowledges the darkness of despair and loss, as well as – for many – the loss of faith but it hints ultimately that it is through selfless sacrifice and service to others that the darkness of despair is turned into the light of hope.”
It has been described as a “vivid and moving tribute to selfless sacrifice, both by those who went to war, and those left to care for families and maintain life at home.
“The design seeks to reflect the need for forgiveness and reconciliation, giving glimpses of combatants from both sides seeking common ground between them. Whilst it does not flinch from the terrible truth of war it equally offers hope for the future.”
