Businessman Alan Hardy says his takeover of Notts County could be completed within hours.
Current owner Ray Trew announced on December 19 that an agreement had been reached after several months of speculation.
And Hardy revealed his legal team had returned to work on the deal on Tuesday after the Christmas holiday.
He Tweeted: “Lawyers and accountants back at it today trying to get comfortable with the numbers. Hopefully it can be sorted out in the next 24 hours.”
Mr Hardy, chief executive of Nottingham company Paragon Interiors, an office refurbishment and fit out business, has been generally warmly welcomed by fans.
Mr Hardy had said on December 19 there was a “considerable” amount of work to get through before an official deal could be announced.
Mr Trew announced his intention to sell earlier this year after six years at the helm.
Some supporters have expressed hope Hardy’s arrival could be confirmed in time for him to inject funds during the January transfer window and halt the club’s slide down League Two.
Notts currently sit in 21st, just two places and one point above the relegation zone, following a 1-0 home defeat to Doncaster on Boxing Day.
Mr Hardy has also given hope to fans of Notts County Ladies FC, saying the FA Women’s Super League side are “very much” part of his plans.
