The family of Dawson Willcock who had a one-in-a-million cancer have said their ‘hearts have been broken’ after he died on Friday (November 24).

Dawson was diagnosed with the liver cancer Hepatoblastoma, at just 15 months old in January.

Mother Wendy Willcock, from Sutton-in-Ashfield, posted an emotional Facebook status saying their two-year-old son Dawson died with his family around them.

The post said: “At 6.03pm, the bravest little boy we ever knew left for a better place.

“Our hearts are broken and only being held together by pride, love and admiration for the child we brought into this world and cuddled as we left.

“Surrounded by his family that he loved so very much, he came to peace on what certainly was Black Friday.

“I’ve never felt so proud yet broken as I do now.

“We love you our sunshine, we will take you everywhere with us.”

On May 17 the family were told Dawson’s chemotherapy was having no effect, his lung tumours had increased in size, and his cancer had become resistant to further chemotherapy.

Donations had flooded in earlier this year to help fund treatment for Dawson in America, including a Notts boxer sparring for 100 rounds to raise money.
