Robotic milking machines are just one feature of a £6 million expansion to a pioneering dairy research centre in Nottinghamshire.
The state-of-the-art facility at the University of Nottingham’s Sutton Bonington Campus is hoping to revolutionise modern dairy farming.
Among the technologies are robotic milking machines allowing cows to decide when they are ready to be milked.
Robot ‘scrapers’ also help to maintain the general hygiene of the facility by automatically getting rid of manure.
The facility was opened on Wednesday (May 23) by Sir Peter Kendall, Chairman of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board, and former President of the National Farmers’ Union and World Farmers Organisation.
