Watch: Historic walled garden in Notts growing rare Echium plants

Part of an iconic Nottinghamshire garden dating back to the 1870s is getting a new lease of life thanks to two award-winning gardeners.

Linda and Ray Heywood are growing Echium inside the walled garden at Thoresby Park, part of the grounds of Thoresby Hall.

Echium is an eye-catching flowering plant which is native to North Africa, parts of mainland Europe and particularly the Macaronesian islands, such as Tenerife.

But it is hard to grow in England because it use to warm climates, meaning it needs skills like those of Ray and Linda, who are Royal Horticultural Society Silver Medal winners.

The Echium Garden is due to open in May.
