Managers at Rock City in Nottingham have begun an investigation into a video which appears to show a member of security staff leave a man unconscious on the floor after a struggle.
The footage, filmed on Wednesday night (November 22), shows a group of security staff grappling with a man outside the venue on Talbot Street.
The man appears to lose consciousness while being restrained from behind by a doorman. He drops to the floor, landing heavily and hitting his head. The doorman then walks away.
Rock City owners DHP say an investigation is underway, adding they have spoken to the firm which supplies its security, telling them the doorman involved in the incident should not work at its venues until further notice.
A man in the queue who saw what happened, who asked not to be named, told Notts TV: “People in the queue were outraged and medics were quickly there.
“It was horrible to see, I’ve worked at a nightclub before and seen incidents like that, thankfully those doormen wear body cams and are protected in that way.
“No attention was given to the boy until welfare officers came to administer first-aid. It could’ve resulted in far worse consequences for the boy than what appeared.
“He was given first aid by people in blue vests afterwards, as he was out for a few minutes, then I was let into the club and didn’t see anymore.”
He added he did not know the person being restrained, who appeared to be with a group of people involved in a scuffle with other staff after being thrown out.
A statement issued on behalf of DHP, which runs the venue, read: “DHP were already aware of the incident and began an investigation the next morning (Thursday) with the firm that supplies security.
“DHP have made it clear that they expect the security firm to investigate the incident thoroughly with their staff and take appropriate action.
“In the meantime, DHP have instructed them that the security team member involved cannot work at Rock City or any other DHP venue.”
A spokesman added DHP was not aware of any complaint made by the man in the video, and it was not aware of any police involvement in the incident.
Notts Police told Notts TV they were not aware of any report to them in relation to the incident.
