WATCH: Moment woman proposes to partner live on Notts TV for leap year

Video: Replay of the moment Rebecca Ashworth gets down on one knee in Stapleford

The moment a Stapleford woman used a leap year tradition to propose to her partner was captured live on Notts TV.

Rebecca Ashworth proposed to Michael Huzzard on Monday at Rebecca’s Shabbylicious tea rooms on Derby Road, Stapleford.

The touching moment appeared during the 6.30 Show.

Michael replied “of course I will” when presented with a Haribo ring given because, according to Rebecca, he “does not wear jewellery.”

UK tradition says when February 29 occurs every four years women can propose to men to be their lawfully wedded husband.

I wasn’t expecting it at all!

Mr Huzzard said: “I wasn’t really expecting that at all!

“I could sense something was up because they wouldn’t let me downstairs!

“With it being leap day, it did ring a bell when it was mentioned on the radio.

“I’m the more romantic one of the two, I do go a little bit mental sometimes!”

Miss Ashworth, soon to be Mrs Huzzard, said: “I don’t really make grand gestures, this is not really me at all!

“I must be slightly mad but I think I’ve got a reputation for that around here so it’s absolutely fine!”
