Woman, 26, dies in A52 crash near Wollaton Park

A woman has died after a crash on the A52 close to Wollaton Park in Nottingham.

The 26-year-old pedestrian was in collision with a car on the Derby Road section of the route, near to the entrance to the park.

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of causing her death by dangerous driving.

It happened at around 11.20pm on Saturday. The woman was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. She has not yet been named by police.

The A52 was closed from the island at Queen’s Medical Centre and re-opened at around 11am on Sunday.

Several people reported seeing the aftermath of the crash, saying passersby attempted to help the woman before the emergency services arrived.

Roberto Labbate wrote on Facebook:  “Nothing anyone could do. The worst thing I have ever seen in my life, RIP.”

Jodie Black added: “Absolutely awful, my thoughts are with the family of this young girl who is my age, gives me shudders.”

A Notts Police spokesman said: “A 24-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.”
