Traffic will be banned from Collin Street with drivers diverted around a new ‘Southern Relief Route’ as part of radical changes to Nottingham’s road layout.

The changes are designed to make junctions safer as well as improving pedestrian flows through the area.

The road layout changes are designed to support the changes to the Broadmarsh shopping centre and the revamped car park.

City Council portfolio holder for transport Nick McDonald said: “By re-routing through traffic onto more appropriate routes, road space will be freed up for traffic getting into the city whilst also making the area safer and more pleasant for pedestrians and cyclists.

“We have taken expert advice on the proposed changes to the roads and we believe that they work.

“We welcome the views of all of those who use the city so I would encourage people to take a look at the proposals and let us know what they think.”

The road redevelopments are part of major plans for the Broadmarsh area which includes overhauling the car park, bus station and a new Skills Hub.

These schemes are part of a £250m investment in this part of the city which is expected to create 3,000 jobs.

It will enhance the exciting plans

Councillor McDonald added: “The transformation of the Broadmarsh area is something which Nottingham people have wanted for quite a long time.

“We think these plans to change the roads in the area will only serve to support and enhance the exciting plans for the area.

“It will see thousands of jobs created, the city centre economy boosted and see millions more visitors attracted to the city each year.”
