Football League fixtures: Forest face Burton Albion on first day of 2016-17 season

Nottingham Forest face a local derby for their opening game of the 2016-17 season when Burton Albion come to the City Ground.

The Football League published its fixture list at 9.30am on Wednesday, revealing Nigel Clough-managed Burton are first up for the Reds on Saturday, August 6.

This will be followed by an away trip to Brighton for Forest on August 13, and another away tie on August 16 at Brentford.

Forest will first face fierce rivals Derby away on Saturday, December 10, and host the Rams on Saturday, March 18.

Notts County will kick off their League Two campaign away at Yeovil on August 6, followed by a home tie with Stevenage on August 13.

Mansfield Town start their season in League Two away at Newport County on August 6 and then host Cheltenham on August 13. The Stags host Notts County on September 8 and the reverse fixture at Meadow Lane is scheduled for January 14.

The full list of Championship fixtures also has Forest playing two relegated sides from the Premier League in September, away at Aston Villa on Saturday, September 10, then home to Norwich on the following weekend.

League Two’s fixture list also has both Notts County and Mansfield Town playing at home on New Year’s Eve, to Carlisle and Doncaster Rovers respectively.
