Princess suffered internal injuries and had to have her tail amputated.

A Netherfield kitten had to be put down after an attack which vets said probably involved it being swung or pulled by its tail.

The cat, named Princess, returned to the home of her owner Leona Crane gravely injured after going missing for several hours on Saturday, October 15.

“She came in struggling and screaming in pain,” said Leona.

“We rushed her to the PDSA emergency hospital and the vets took her in that night.

“They rang me in morning saying that Princess needed to have her tail amputated and also told me her insides were bruised and damaged.

“They told me it looked like it was the result of abuse rather than being hit by a vehicle.”

Leona, of Godfrey Street, added she was left devastated when vets said the injuries were so bad Princess was not likely to recover, leading her to make the difficult decision to have her put to sleep.

Notts Police are also asking for information on what happened to Princess.

She told the Gedling Eye: “I waited anxiously for hours while they carried out the surgery. Unfortunately, because the nerve ending of her tail was so damaged, she couldn’t control her bladder.

“She was in so much pain and urine was now leaking into her body. It would have caused infections.

“I was begging and pleading with them to just help her but they said there was nothing else they could do.”

Vets said the some of the damage was consistent with a cat which has been swung or pulled by its tail.

The incident has been reported to Notts Police and Leona has also been distributing leaflets asking people for help in tracing the eight-month-old cat’s attacker.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said: “We are investigating and anyone with any information can contact us on 101 quoting incident 402 of October 16.”

Leona said: “My poor kitten cat didn’t deserve this. If anyone knows anything please contact the police.”
