Staff at a city centre pub have been left baffled by a mysterious piece of lost property – a hand carved statue of a wooden sea captain.
The figure was left next to a lamp at Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem around a fortnight ago.
Despite several appeals, no-one’s claimed him, so staff are adopting the strange statue as a mascot.
Pub manager Carl Gibson said: “There was no note, and apparently no reason why he was left there, he was just resting next to the light bulb.
“We left it there for a week in case anyone came back to claim it, nobody did, so we brought it inside the pub.
“We’ve made an appeal on social media to see if anyone knew who the captain is. If there’s no claims we’ll keep him as part of the team.”
It’s amazing what you find in the pub?! Can you help us name him? #captain #name #1189 #Nottingham #help pic.twitter.com/a4hPfVOqvj

Staff have been tweeting to ask for suggestions on what “the captain” should be called
