Fake ‘designer’ blankets seized by Nottingham’s Trading Standards are being used to keep abandoned puppies comfy and warm.

Dogs at the Castlefield Dog Rescue and Castlefield Kennels in Ilkeston received blankets with labels including Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Versace.

Nottingham City Council’s Trading Standards seized the blankets, among 200 items found to be fake, which are usually thrown away but were this time donated to kennels.

Director of the kennels Kathryn Williams said: “We are always extremely grateful for donations to help the strays & rescue dogs we care for and these blankets will ensure they have a warm & comfortable bed at the kennels.”

The abandoned dogs are picked up by a Dog Control unit and seven days are given to the owners to retrieve their pet.

After this time, Nottingham City are legal owners but in most cases, stray dogs are left there to find a new home.

A spokesperson from Nottingham City Council said: “It would be a shame to just throw away so many blankets, especially knowing that they could make lots of rescued dogs comfy this winter.

“We hope all the dogs will enjoy their new gifts just in time for the Winter season!”
