From fat rodents to disappearing lions – the April foolsters have been on good form in Nottinghamshire.

Councils and even police officers have been getting in on the act on TV, radio, online and social media.

1. Fat Squirrels

The University of Nottingham announced they were creating an ‘urban gym’ for the overweight squirrels on campus – even creating a video.

#Fatsquirrels was trending in Nottingham before the Uni came clean on their prank at midday on Friday.

2. Notts Police hit extra hard by funding cuts

Not wanting to miss out on the fun, Nottinghamshire Police went public on their latest fleet of vehicles – battery powered miniature trucks complete with blue flashing lights.

3. Market Square lions to leave Nottingham

The BBC caused a storm when they ‘revealed’ the city’s famous lions would be leaving to be reunited with their fictional Italian owners.

One twitter user wrote: “Oh no, can we not have two Robin Hood statues there instead?”

4. Blue Duck making movesblue-duck

As the lions move out of the city, according to Notts TV, Blue Duck is set to become the official meeting place for Nottingham.

5. Alpaca on the loose in Rushcliffe

Rushcliffe Borough Council were hoping to alpaca-punch with this April Fools joke they put out on Twitter this morning.

6. Nottingham Playhouse’s sardine slapstick drama

Rehearsals for Noises Off at the Nottingham Playhouse took a turn for the worse when the cast started fighting during a rehearsal.

Reports of sardines being thrown have not yet been validated.

7. Ey Up Mi Duck

The Nottingham Post put a new twist on the Notts accent – reporting that business communication company Esendex had developed a regional accent translator.

The mobile phone tool was developed to “help people understand what ‘ey up mi duck’ means”.

8. Notts Fire and Rescue Service goes green

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service is leading the way in renewable energy with their new eco-engine.
