Boots is planning to shed up to 350 assistant store manager jobs as it continues a business restructure.

Company bosses said on Monday that 300 to 350 roles at larger stores across the country would go through “a combination of natural attrition, redeployment, retraining and redundancy”.

Formal consultation would be held with those affected, the firm said.

The announcement is part of Boots three-year overhaul plan, which was first introduced last June, more than 300 support centre staff lost their jobs at the Beeston headquarters.

In further developments, the firm said 400 of its call centre staff in Nottingham would be transferring to a new company, Teleperformance, on March 14.

In a statement, the firm said: “These colleagues will continue to work on the Boots UK site in Nottingham, will retain their existing pay and benefits, and will continue to be the voice of the Boots brand to the customers they help via phone, email and online, while benefitting from Teleperformance’s global expertise in providing customer and store colleague support for well-known retail brands growing customer loyalty and satisfaction.”

Bosses also announced a ‘reward package’ which includes improved base rates for all hourly paid employees in the UK.

Simon Roberts, President of Boots, said: “Everything we do at Boots is about helping people feel good. So many of our colleagues deliver amazing care for our patients, customers and communities everyday and we are actively working to make sure our people are rewarded for the great work they continue to do.

“I believe our plans will enable us to build an even better Boots and drive future growth.”

There will also be investment in new training academies to develop skills and offer in depth training to Boots leading brand No7, the firm said.

Boots has more than 2,500 stores across the UK but is not yet clear how many Nottinghamshire stores will be affected by the new plans.
