Carl Froch says he could come out of retirement in 2016

carl froch retirement comeback

Carl Froch says he is open to offers of a comeback and could be interested in one last world title fight in 2016.

The 38-year-old has been quoted by Press Association Sport as saying he could end his retirement after hanging up his gloves in July.

He said: “I always said, ‘Once I’ve retired, I won’t come back,’ but just lately now, 18 months on from my last fight, I’m starting to think to myself, ‘You know what? I’m fit, I’m strong, I’m in good shape,’”

Since his retirement Froch, who grew up in Gedling, has continued to train but cited a lack of desire to face the current crop of super-middleweight contenders when hanging up his gloves.

I’m not an attention-seeker but it’s just relighting that old flame

He added: “If I did fancy it, I’m thinking spring next year, get Christmas out of the way. I’m training every day. I’m not doing much punching but my fitness is up.

“If I was going to fight again, and it’s a big if, I’d be ready for next year. Another slice of the action, another snippet in the limelight, a massive fight, all the attention on me – I’m not an attention-seeker but it’s just relighting that old flame.”

He added James DeGale, the current IBF world title holder, could provide the motivation needed for a single-fight comeback.

Froch had previously said he would spend time out of the ring building his poker career, having appeared in several high-profile tournaments.
