A wall collapsed at NCP car park on Mount Street

Drivers are being urged to avoid the Mount Street area in the city centre after part of a car park wall collapsed which left vehicles hanging over the edge.

Police assisted the Fire and Rescue Service at around 4am today (Saturday August 19) after a wall on the first floor of the building fell down.

No one was injured.

NCP has been informed and structural engineers are on the scene assessing the state of the building.

All vehicles on or near the edge have now been secured.

A number of road closures have been put in place while this work is carried out.

The closures are on Mount Street, from the junction with Cumberland Place to Maid Marian Way, in Cumberland Place and Park Row, to the junction with Cumberland Place.

It is not yet known how long the closures will be in place and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

Maid Marian Way is open as normal.

NCP is allowing customers to collect their cars from the car park but no new vehicles are being allowed in at this stage.
