East Midlands drivers struggle the most out of any region in the UK to pass their driving test first time, a new study shows.

A Compare the Market.com study has found that only 44 per cent of East Midlands drivers manage to pass their test first time.

It also found that almost six per cent of drivers in the region take five or more attempts to pass their test.

There are big differences between how each driver acts behind the wheel

Dan Bass, head of car insurance at the website, said: “There are more types of drivers on the road than ever before, with big differences between how they each act behind the wheel.”

The study found that multi-tasking behind the wheel is the UK’s worst habit.

Among 2,000 adults, 32 per cent of Britons admitted to multi-tasking, beating the percentage of people who admitted to road rage (26).

Someone’s gender was also seen to be a factor as to whether a driver would let someone out of a junction or not, with men (eight per cent) less likely to be let out than women (25).
