Elderly woman who died in Gotham house fire named locally as Joan Kemp

An elderly woman has died following a house fire in Gotham at the weekend.

Fire crews were called to the semi-detached house on Kegworth Road on Friday (October 14) just before 6pm.

Emergency services confirmed that a body was recovered from the fire but they have not yet formally identified the person.

However, she is being named locally as Joan Kemp, believed to be aged in her nineties.

Flowers paying tribute were left outside the house.

Floral tributes have been left against a tree outside of the house with local residents also paying tribute to her.

One, person, who asked not to be named, said: “She was such a lovely lady and our thoughts are with her family at this sad time; we are really sorry for your loss.”

A second resident said: “It’s so sad to hear that she’s gone, she was so lovely.”

A charred door was left on the front lawn outside the house.

In a statement, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are working closely with Nottinghamshire Police to investigate the circumstances surrounding a house fire on Kegworth Road, Gotham, Friday, October 14.

“A body has been recovered from the property however the deceased has not yet been formally identified.

“The thoughts of all at Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service are with the family and friends of the deceased at this sad time.”

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that investigations into the fire are ongoing.
