Who is in the frame for vacant Forest manager’s job?

next forest manager

Nottingham Forest fans are still no closer to knowing who will be managing the club next season, with four names rumoured to be on the shortlist.

Nigel Pearson, Gus Poyet, Martin O’Neill and Nigel Clough are the names being touted by the bookies for the vacant role at the City Ground.

Here’s a round-up of their chances including the latest bookmakers’ odds,

Nigel Pearson (20/1)

The former Leicester City and Hull gaffer is believed to be in advanced talks with recently-relegated Aston Villa but was spotted at the City Ground during the Reds’ defeat to Brighton in April.

The 52-year-old is from Nottingham and may fancy returning to the city as he looks to add another promotion to his résumé.

Gus Poyet (4/7)

The former Sunderland and Brighton boss made his name playing for Chelsea and is the odds on favourite for the role.

The Uruguayan likes his teams to play free-flowing attacking football, which is something that will please most Nottingham Forest supporters after some vented frustrations at former boss Dougie Freedman’s negative approach.

Poyet has spent the last year managing Greek side AEK Athens but with his contract up this summer, he may look at a return to England.

Last week, Fawaz uploaded this photo of himself in Greece but was he there for talks with Poyet?

Martin O’Neill (4/1)

Forest fans will have to wait until after the Euros to find out whether legendary Reds winger Martin O’Neill is the next man to take the manager’s seat in the dugout.

He will take charge of the Republic of Ireland at Euro 2016 and is yet to confirm whether he will extend his contract beyond the tournament.

Many fans’ choice for the role, O’Neill has the best CV of the four following successful spells at Wycombe, Leicester, Celtic and Aston villa as a manager.

However, he is believed to favour a return to Premier League-level management.

Nigel Clough (12/1)

Could Nigel take his father’s old seat in the dugout? It is possible.

The 50-year-old is believed to have a clause in his contract which would allow him to terminate his contract at Burton Albion if the Reds came calling for his services.

Burton could be promoted to the Championship next weekend and Clough may want to build on that next season, although the possibility of following in his father’s footsteps may be too enticing to turn down.

Aside from the four names mentioned, other people linked with the job include outspoken Leeds manager Steve Evans, former Forest boss Steve Cotterill and Italian Gianfranco Zola.
