George Osbourne’s Budget: Parents in Bulwell give their reaction

Chancellor George Osbourne said today that Britain is ‘walking tall again’, but parents at a mums’ group in Bulwell have told Notts TV they are not feeling the economic recovery.

Angela Jacklin and Christine Rae have nine children between them and struggle with the amount of money they get to keep up with the costs of food and clothing.

They say they would like to see more help from the government when it comes to these areas so that they can ‘live a bit more’ according to Christine.

“Food and clothing is really expensive for my five children and every second day I have to spend around £45 for food,” Christine said.

“The Child Benefit I get from the government doesn’t cover the costs so either an increase in money or a drop in the price of food would be helpful.”

Anglea agrees and says that the food and clothes that she has to buy for her children, on top of the rent and council tax, stretches her budget to the maximum.

“My problem stems from the fact that my eldest who is 15 wants all the up-to-date clothing from the big brands and that is really expensive,” she said.

“We don’t get much working tax because my partner works but I still have to pay full rent and council tax so more help on that point would be good.”
