Jake Bugg will play a free intimate gig at Notts County’s Meadow Lane as part of a global concert series to raise awareness of refugees.

Sofar Sounds will host Nottingham’s very own Jake Bugg for the set on September 20 as part of Amnesty International and Sofar Sounds’ Give a Home campaign.

The award-winning Clifton musician has recently announced plans to release his fourth studio album, ‘Hearts That Strain’, the follow-up to 2016’s UK hit record ‘On My One’, as well as an extensive UK acoustic tour.

Hannah Marsland, Sofar Sounds Nottingham leader, said: “Everyone at Sofar Sounds Nottingham is so incredibly excited to be hosting Jake Bugg on his home turf all while raising money and awareness for Amnesty International to help those without a home.

“It promises to be a truly special night.”

Give a Home comes as the global refugee population exceeds 22 million – the worst refugee crisis since the Second World War.

The funds raised by the project will support Amnesty International’s work in documenting human rights abuses and violations against refugees.

Simon Fotheringham, Notts County commercial operations manager, said: “We couldn’t be prouder to be selected as a venue for this amazing event.

“It’s well documented that Jake’s a huge Notts fan and the prospect of him playing a set in the boardroom will be as exciting to him as it is us.

“We are also really pleased to be able to offer a few tickets to refugees who took part in Notts County’s collaboration with Amnesty International’s Football Welcomes initiative, so they can enjoy this Give a Home gig taking place in their local football club.”

Give a Home includes 300 secret shows in 60 countries around the world, and Jake Bugg will join the likes of Ed Sheeran, Frank Turner and Jessie Ware.

Kate Allen, Director of Amnesty UK, said: “We are delighted that so many fantastic musicians are signing up to Give a Home and that so many people around the country are opening their doors to host these gigs in solidarity with refugees.

“Governments have displayed a shocking failure of leadership over the refugee crisis, but ordinary people in communities across the world have been going out of their way to welcome refugees.

“Jake Bugg and everyone else performing and attending the gig at Notts County will be part of this movement for a better response to the crisis, in the UK and around the globe.”
