Video: Inspector Nick Butler said Melanie’s family are ‘deeply worried’
Police are stepping up a land and water search operation for a young Nottinghamshire woman who has been missing for more than a week.
Melanie Wilson was last seen in the Mansfield area at 11.20pm on Wednesday, October 19.
The 22-year-old is involved in voluntary work in the Sutton-in-Ashfield area and a public search has also been organised for her today along side police teams.
Inspector Nick Butler, of Notts Police, held a press conference outside Mansfield Police station on Thursday morning.
“We’ve been doing land and water searches over in Sutton-in-Ashfield where she lives and we’ve got specialist search advisers advising us of places where she may visit,” he said.
“We’ve been speaking with the family, reassuring them and letting them know that we are doing all that we can.
“Please ring the 101 number quoting reference 858 if you have any information about Melanie, it may be the lead we are looking for that can help us find her.”
He added Miss Wilson’s family were “deeply worried” for her and appealed for her to contact police or relatives.
Miss Wilson has gone missing before in September, but was found nearby her home.
However, police say this time she has left her phone behind and has unusually gone silent on social media.
Miss Wilson lives alone in Mansfield but has connections to Sutton-in-Ashfield and the surrounding area.
She was last heard from when she spoke to a friend in Mansfield last Wednesday evening.
Police frogmen are searching in the lake at Sutton Lawn for a second day today and officers are also going door-to-door in Sutton-in-Ashfield and Mansfield.
Melanie is white, about 5ft 6ins tall, has blonde hair and is of a slim build. She also had a distinctive sleeve tattoo on her arm.
