Lenton bakery has windows smashed day before it’s due to open

Video: Raheel Ali says he has been left ‘gutted’ by the attack

An all-you-can-eat dessert shop in Lenton has had its windows smashed by vandals the day before it was due to open.

OMG CheeseCakes was due to start trading on Monday but shop owners Raheel Ali and Kay Shah have had to delay the opening while they repair the windows.

The Abbey Street shop was attacked sometime over Saturday night into Sunday morning.

 Gob-smacked and gutted

Mr Ali said: “It was roughly about eleven on Sunday morning, we just came to drop some stock at the shop and we saw this – I was obviously gob-smacked and gutted.

“I’m still excited to open, I love this area, I know everyone around here and it’s a family run business.”

The shop will sell chocolate fudge cakes, milkshakes, cornflake tarts, brownies, and will also include a freshly cooked all-you-can-eat dessert buffet where patrons have an hour to eat as much food as they can.

Mr Ali said local people told him they heard banging sounds around 11pm on Saturday, when the attack is believed to have happened.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said that the force are currently investigating the incident and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Mr Ali added, “I was meant to finish it (the shop) on Sunday but I couldn’t come to work. It’s not going to stop me, we’re going to open two or three more shops hopefully.

“I’m not bothered about it because it’s done. I can’t do anything now but we need to catch these people.”

He said that he hoped to open the shop for business later in the week, adding he expected the repairs to cost thousands of pounds.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact Notts Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
