Long Eaton woman raising money to support her ‘rescue cow’

More than £500 has been pledged to help support a cow adopted by a caring Long Eaton woman.

Trisha Boyko first discovered the cow alone in a field near the town last year and the two formed a bond.

Trisha began to bring her leftover vegetables every day, even on Christmas and New Year’s Day, and has named her Jean Jeanie.

Trisha has even made a Facebook page for the animal, where people began donating food and hay.

But earlier this year Trisha found out that Jeanie was going to be sold by her owner.

Fearing she would one day end up in a slaughterhouse, Trisha bought the cow, registered herself as a livestock keeper, found her a new field and started taking care of Jeanie herself.

“I promised both myself and Jeanie that I would not let her down,” Trisha said.

“She has had a lonely existence the majority of the time I have known her and for the first time in a long time she finally has some company and is able to be what she deserves to be, a herd animal.”

Trisha met Jean Jeanie in 2015.

The cow moved to her new home on Saturday, October 9, but Trisha is finding it difficult to keep up with the £30 a week rent required to keep the cow.

She started a JustGiving page for Jean Jeanie three weeks ago, aiming to raise £1,500.

So far £589 has been raised to help with the costs of keeping the animal.

Donations range from a few pounds to a huge £200 single donation.

Along with taking donations on JustGiving, Trisha is also offering to do odd jobs such as cleaning ovens and dustbins, plus tarot readings.

So far the money raised has been spent on fly repellent spray to keep the bugs out of Jean Jeanie’s eyes and a brush, on top of money being spent on rent.
