Man arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated criminal damage following attack on mosque

A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated criminal damage following an attack on a mosque.

Witnesses detained a man after windows at the Masjid Umar Mosque and Islamic Centre on Alfreton Road, Radford were smashed in at around 11.25pm on Monday (July 3) while people were inside.

Notts Police officers then arrested a man who remains in police custody and recovered a hammer.

Police believe it is an isolated incident.

Officers are trying to trace further witnesses to the damage including occupant of a red vehicle that assisted in the detention of the suspect.
