Mansfield and Ashfield businesses given more money for apprentices

Employers in Mansfield and Ashfield are to have £90,000 added to a grant pot set up to help local businesses take on new apprentices.

Mansfield District Council will be giving the additional money to small and medium-sized enterprises within the Mansfield and Ashfield areas, offering grants of up to £1,500 per placement.

The districts council’s Economic Stimulus Fund, a set of measures designed to boost jobs and local business growth, has made the extra money available.

How the apprenticeships work:

  • Apprentices should ideally be aged from 19 to 24, although sometimes young people aged 16 to 19 can be eligible for some positions.
  • A business can apply for up to 5 placements.
  • Each apprentice must be taking up a new role within the business.
  • The apprentice must live in the Mansfield and Ashfield district.

Cllr Kate Allsop, Mansfield District Council’s portfolio holder for Economic Regeneration, said: “This extra funding gives local businesses an excellent incentive to take on a new apprentice and help boost their productivity and performance.

We want to help businesses to grow and give young people the opportunity to be properly trained and qualified.

“The Ashfield and Mansfield regeneration team is on hand to help businesses find and fund placements for apprentices, so please get in touch.”

The move marks the start of National Apprentice Week which runs from March 9 to 13.
