Nottingham shoppers are being affected by a nationwide shortage of products on Tesco’s website linked to a supplier dispute.
The shop has pulled dozens of Unilever products from its online shopping service – including brands such as Marmite, Pot Noodle, Hellman’s Mayonnaise and Coleman’s Mustard.
Twitter users have already dubbed the shortage ‘#Marmitegate’ because many of the affected items are household names.
Shop stocks are currently only being affected in limited areas – Notts TV News found all of the most common brands still available at six city centre Tesco stores on Thursday morning.
Shops on Angel Row, Maid Marian Way, Shakespeare Street, Upper Parliament Street, Fletcher Gate and in the Victoria Centre were all unaffected as of 10am.
All still had good supplies of Marmite, Coleman’s Mustard, Hellman’s Mayonnaise, PG Tips, Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream and Pot Noodles.
The dispute is believed to be linked to costs associated with the poor performance of the value of the pound against other world currencies.
A Tesco Spokesperson said: “We are currently experiencing availability issues on a number of Unilever products. We hope to have this issue resolved soon.”
Unilever is a British-Dutch company and one of the UK’s biggest suppliers of groceries, providing food, drinks, cosmetics and household items.
#Marmitegate has been trending on Twitter all morning, and is currently the number 1 trending hashtag in the UK, and fourth in the world.
