Micropigs abandoned in Nottinghamshire

It’s not just cats and dogs that are being abandoned in Nottinghamshire. According to one rescue centre pigs are becoming a problem.

Four piglets were rescued by Brinsley Animal Rescue centre in Brinsley, Nottingham after being abandoned in a bucket at only one day old.

The centre said that many people are buying micro pigs to keep as pets at home not knowing how big they can grow and what a handful they can be.

Beth Hewis who runs the centre said: “It’s a huge, huge problem that people buy micro pigs, they think that they are going to stay small and they don’t.  They trash the house and the garden and then people ring us up with a problem.”

The piglets are being hand reared by Beth who feeds them four times a day with formula milk and are to be rehomed together.

Currently the centre looks after 16 abandoned pigs but last year they were asked to take in around 300 pigs.

The centre is only a handful of rescue centres that takes in pigs and Beth says they cannot cope with demand.
