A miracle Nottingham baby is home in time for Christmas after being born 16 weeks prematurely weighing just 1lb 6oz.

Amaya Ibrahim was born in April 2016 and spent 19 weeks on the Neonatal Unit at the QMC followed by another 14 weeks at Nottingham Children’s Hospital.

However Amaya was able to go home last week with parents Khaled and Melanie Ibrahim, who are relieved that she can see home for the first time.

Having Amaya home really is the best Christmas present

Melanie said: “It’s incredible for us as a family.

“Though we live close to the QMC and had the opportunity to stay there with Amaya, we chose not to as we also have a six-year-old daughter.

“It was like living two separate lives for eight months – we weren’t able to have a proper family life together.

“It’s a cliche, but having Amaya home really is the best Christmas present.

“The staff at the hospital have been so good to all of us – we couldn’t have got through the last eight months without them.

“They’ve really supported us as a family – they’ve not just looked after Amaya, they’ve looked after all of us.”
