Almost five years after giving birth prematurely, Emma Lowe has thrown a charity event to raise money for the neonatal unit that looked after her children for over four months.
Emma Lowe gave birth to twins, Daniel and Daisy after only 24 weeks of pregnancy. The twins weighed in at around 1lb 5oz and 1lb 1oz and were so small when they were born that they could fit in the palm of their mothers hand.
Emma said the staff at the unit saved Daniel’s life, which had been very much in the balance more than once. The twins and their mother then had to spend the next four months on the ward whilst all three of them were nursed back to health.
The twins, who turn five at the end of July are preparing to start primary school in September. Daniel has cerebral palsy and needs assistance to walk but his mum said: “He is doing really well.”
Emma organised a family fun day to thank the neonatal unit for what they did and to raise some money for them in the process.

Despite their early life troubles, Emma says they have come a long way. She said: “My daughter is catching up well with her peers and my son is learning sign language to communicate with us, but he is able to understand everything we say to him.”
The family fun day, which took place at Emmanuel Church Hall, Bestwood on June 27 had arts and craft stalls, family fun games as well as plenty of cakes for the visitors to enjoy.
