Newstead Abbey’s oldest peahen has given birth to three peachicks

These new peafowl chicks are the first to be hatched at Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire in nearly two decades.

Abbie, Newstead Abbey’s oldest peahen that lives in the venues gardens, has successfully hatched three baby peachicks.

It has been almost two decades since the last peafowl chick was hatched.

The family has now been moved from the open garden area of the grounds to a safe and secluded garden so they will be safe from foxes or dogs.

The Cloister garden where they now live can be viewed from the Cloister windows over the weekend at the venue.

Newstead Abbey’s geese have also had babies which can be seen in their gardens.
