Nottingham basketball coach challenges fitness of other sports teams in county

Nottingham Forest and Notts County are among the county’s sports teams called out by a Nottingham basketball coach.

Set up in 2009 by coach Lee English, the Nottingham Hoods have two men’s teams in the English Basketball League, a successful ladies local league team and junior teams competing at under 12, 14, 16 and 18 level.

Speaking on Sports Week, Lee English laid down a marker to sports teams across the county.

He said: “I am pretty confident that some of our guys, their conditioning is really good.

“So I think Forest, Notts County, the cricket team, the rugby team, we want to challenge one of you guys.

“Not myself personally I must say but James has agility and speed; we’ve got guys that can press-up, we’ve got guys that can jump.”

Lee wants the challenge to be taken seriously by other teams.

He said: “Let’s make this public, we want to put out a challenge, let’s see who is willing to accept that.

“I think if we come on the show another time and put a formal challenge, maybe even do it in the studio and get something going.”
