Plans for apartments to replace an empty Nottingham college building have been scaled back.
An application to turn the abandoned Central College building in High Road, Chilwell, into apartments and new build homes was previously criticised by residents who said it would lead to parking issues.
Plans for the site to be turned into 67 flats, 22 apartments and eight semi-detached houses were first submitted in October 2021.
Now, the plans have been revised with the hope of them being approved by Broxtowe Borough Council’s planning committee.
The plans are for “part new build and part conversion and extension” of the Y block of the college building.
Applicant High Road Developments Limited said the number of one, two and three bedroom homes have now been reduced from 97 to 87.
They added that the number of proposed parking spaces has increased from 59 to 82 to try to alleviate residents’ concerns.
But people living close to the college building said in December 2021 those living in apartments were more likely to have cars than students, which was a “concern”.
The applicant’s solicitors have submitted the revised plans this month “that
respond to issues raised during consultation”.
Council papers from the solicitors stated: “It is understood that the revised plans and elevations will be subject to re-consultation for a period of 7 days after which we will review any further comments.”
Previously, proposals to transform the site into housing for 162 students were turned down by councillors after concerns were raised that it would change the area’s character.
Around 80 residents also opposed the plans at the time, claiming that they could turn ‘Beeston into the new Lenton’.
The new plans will now be considered by Broxtowe Borough Council.
