Nottingham Forest takeover still under assessment by the EFL

Evangelos Marinakis’ proposed takeover of Nottingham Forest is believed to still be under assessment by the English Football League.

Current owner Fawaz Al Hasawi said the Greek tycoon’s takeover was “99 per cent” complete after Forest escaped relegation on the final day of the Championship season.

But Marinakis’ takeover of the club cannot be completed until he passes the EFL’s owners’ and directors’ test.

An EFL spokesman told Notts TV: “The body does does not comment on takeovers.”

But a representative was quoted by the BBC as saying: “A change of control at Nottingham Forest is currently being assessed by the EFL Executive within the context of our regulations.”

However, it is believed the takeover is likely to be approved as the Greek shipowner has not been convicted of any crime.
