A 19-year-old man has been given a hospital order for stabbing a man to death in Sneinton last year.
Ben Richardson, of Gedling, admitted he caused the fatal injury to 27-year-old Martin Maughan.
Nottingham Crown Court was told today (November 29) the two men were involved in an argument at a party at a flat in Sneinton on December 10. The row spilled outside and ended in a fight on West Walk.
Mr Maughan later walked into the living room with his hand over his chest, where he was bleeding, and slumped on the floor. Richardson, who had turned 19 that day, ran off.
Officers found Mr Maughan with two stab wounds to the chest. He was later pronounced dead at the Queen’s Medical Centre.
A post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death was a stab wound to the chest that had pierced internal organs and caused fatal injury.
Richardson had admitted manslaughter by loss of control at a previous hearing.
He has been declared dangerous by the court and will not be released until a mental health tribunal believes he offers no further risk to society. He will be detained in a secure mental health facility.
Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Rob Severn, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This is a tragic incident which has resulted in a young man losing his life following an argument that quickly escalated.
“Sadly it illustrates the tragic consequences that carrying a knife can entail.
“Richardson, who had a knife, lost control and became a killer. The devastating impact on the victim’s family and friends will be with them for the rest of their lives.
“Nottinghamshire Police take knifes crime very seriously and every effort will made to arrest offenders and them responsible for their crimes.”
Mr Maughan was one of two men stabbed to death in Sneinton on the same weekend.
The next day, his friend Junior Fuller was stabbed and killed at a gathering he was holding to remember Mr Maughan at his home on Mill View Close.
Dwayne Johnson, 29, of Lammas Gardens, the Meadows, was found guilty of murder in July and is serving at least 21 years in prison.
